Every otaku (anime addict) in Michigan needs to gear up and get ready for the most awesome anime event to ever hit Michigan: Youmacon. An anime convention in Dearborn, is an awesome experience for anyone into anime. People that go can go talk to fellow anime addicts, dress up as their favorite characters, buy stuff, buy artwork from local artists, go play video games, go to crazy events, or just hang out and enjoy the randomness of whatever crazy stuff is going on in between events. The con is so fun that even those not really into anime could come and enjoy themselves (and probably get a good laugh out of some of the over-the-top costumes some people have). I got the chance to check the con out last year, and it was….pretty much the best four days of my life. Some of the costumes were beyond hilarious. While most people decided to dress up as characters from the favorite shows, others came as a giant brownie, a zombie spider-man, and one guy even came in a cardboard box and co splayed as a PS2 memory card. Another guy came in with only his underwear and a Master Chief helmet from the game Halo. One guy who came as this giant, 9-foot, ting that could barely reach the ceiling. The special events were awesome. There was a Live Action Mario Party, tons of video game tournaments (with cash prizes), a masquerade where people did skits of there favorite shows, an after dark version of the Live Action Mario Party, and an event called Happy Fun Time, where they showed retarded videos three hours straight. There are AMV (anime music video) competitions, where anyone good at making AMVs can come and compete for cash prizes. Overall the best thing about Youmacon is the atmosphere. You can really do just about whatever; just hang out and meet new people, or do retarded stuff to get on Youtube. One guy hooked up his tablet pc in the hallway and him and three other people started playing Guitar Hero in the middle of the hallway. You could fall asleep in the middle of the hallway and no one will really care. Youmacon is truly awesome; anyone who likes having fun and meeting new people and EVERYONE who’s into anime should definitely check out this sweet anime convention in the fall.
