Morgan Groulx’s Review
An empowering biography of the life Johnny Cash left behind.
Walking The Line
“It has nothing to do with God, it’s about believing in yourself Mr. Cash.” A bold statement made by a well-known music producer, shot back desire from Johnny Cash and the Tennessee Three, which capped a record for his hit, “Folsom Prison Blues.”
Released in November, Walk The Line skyrocketed off the charts moving up further to take the Oscar in 2005. Directed by James Mangold, Walk The Line sets itself in the south, with the portrayal from the lives of Johnny Cash and June Carter.
Johhny Cash, played by Joaquin Phoenix starts life out rough with the death of his only brother, Jack Cash. Cash moves on to find remedy in music. He goes on to write many hits and tour the country with his stunning affair, June Carter, played by the talented Reese Witherspoon.
It takes a lot to go through life when ‘that train keeps a rollin’ and that ‘lonesome whistle’ seems to never sound. Jumping to drugs and alcohol, life seems to be dwindling down for the iconic Cash. When someone finds hope in him it is he who truly ‘walks the line’ in this music-entwined romance.
